A Summer Camp Project

Tulip on a Stand

Tulip on a Stand

Yesterday, I was asked to come up with an origami project for a kids summer camp with a garden theme. What came to my mind immediately was the traditional tulip and leaf which almost stands up at the leaf base but it needed a little reinforcement so I dusted off the trusty hot glue gun and used it to attach the stem to a flat bottom glass pebble I bought at the dollar store. It made a beautiful and sturdy stand for my flower don’t you think?
This tulip would make a great table decoration if you write your guests name on the stem.

Really good step by step folding instructions for the tulip and stem can be found on this helpful origami website.

How about making one for yourself or a friend? Here’s how I did it:

You will need:

  • 2 sheets 6″ square origami paper, one green and one red
  • 1 large flat glass pebble
  • Hot glue gun loaded with glue stick
  1. Take one sheet of green paper 6″ square and fold the leaf.
  2. Take another sheet of red (or any color) and fold the tulip.
  3. Put a glob of hot glue at the top of the stem and insert it into the bottom of the tulip.
  4. Put a generous amount of hot glue onto the bottom of the stem and place it firmly onto the top of the glass pebble.
